Gianni Gallo

Italian Artist (Dogliani, 1935 – 2011)

To design our signature Labels, 'Etichette d'Autore Polla', we have chosen since 1989 the artist Gianni Gallo of Dogliani, aka 'Galet'.

We think that the deep dedication and professionalism in representing its land and nature, correspond to the values of the Polla family, committed for generations to seek excellence in the production of Ligurian extra virgin olive oil.

Known for his illustrations representing the flora and the fauna of Le Langhe, Gianni began in the 1960s to design labels of wines and grappas for special reserves of Barolo and Barbaresco. Thus the 'Etichette d'Autore' were born, on a winter evening at the Vietti-Currado house. These labels earned Galet the Design Award of the English magazine Wine and Spirit in 1984.

For more than fifty years 'Galet', an anarchist by choice, continued to receive friends and visitors from all over the world in Dogliani. His kitchen was always open and he offered his company, a glass of wine and magic of his works.

Foreign and completely uninterested in the art market, he organized a single exhibition in Alba in 1975 and another at the Oleificio Polla di Loano in 2009 showing drawings, woodcuts, etchings of flowers, wild herbs, birds, insects, fruits, trees: the nature of the Langa that he knew and loved well.
